Privacy policy

The short version

There are no accounts, so there is no account data. Most tools never send your file anywhere. The ones that do delete it within an hour. We never store your IP address in readable form. Advertising and, where enabled, Google Analytics are the only third parties that see anything about your visit; neither ever sees the contents of a file.

Tools that process files in your browser

Around 85% of the tools on this site — including image compression and conversion, most PDF manipulation, every text and developer tool, QR and barcode generation, and all calculators — run entirely on your own device. Your file is never transmitted to us. Each of those pages carries a files never leave your device badge on the upload area.

Tools that upload

A minority of tools need a server: PDF to Word, Excel and PowerPoint conversion, PDF compression and OCR, background removal, and the network lookup tools. Those pages carry an uploaded securely · deleted within 1 hour badge instead.

For those tools we store: the uploaded file and its output, under a random name outside the web root; the original filename, for display only; the file size, type and checksum; and a salted hash of your IP address. Files and original filenames are deleted within one hour by a job that runs every ten minutes. Download links are signed and expire after 15 minutes.

What we never store

  • Your IP address in readable form — it is hashed with a secret key and used only for rate limiting and abuse detection
  • Email addresses, names or payment details from tool use
  • File contents beyond the one-hour retention window
  • A per-visit history of which tools you used

Analytics

We count how often each tool is viewed, started, completed and errored, as daily totals per tool. These counters carry no identifier of any kind — they cannot be traced back to a visitor, and there is no per-event record.

Google Analytics

We also use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people reach and which they leave. It records the page you viewed, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device and browser you used. Google derives the location from your IP address and then discards it; the address is not stored in the Analytics data we can see, and we cannot use any of it to identify you.

Google Analytics sets cookies beginning _ga in your browser, which distinguish one visit from the next. Google retains the data it collects for up to 14 months.

Two things about how it is loaded here. It is not requested at all until you scroll, tap or type, or a few seconds pass, so a page you open and close immediately sends nothing. And we tell Google, before it loads, that advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation are all denied — Analytics on this site is never used to build an advertising profile of you.

Analytics cookies are set without asking first. You can opt out for every site by installing Google's opt-out add-on, by browsing in a private window, or by using any content blocker — the site works identically with Analytics blocked.

Cookies and advertising

This site is funded by advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve and measure ads. If you are in the EU, the UK or another region requiring consent, you will be asked before any personalised advertising cookie is set, and you can change that choice at any time.

We also use a small amount of browser storage for conveniences such as your recently used tools. That data stays in your browser and is never sent to us.

Your rights

Because we hold no account and no identifiable record of you, there is generally nothing to export or erase. If you believe we hold something relating to you, contact us and we will look into it.
